With the May 1st deadline looming, I've been leaning toward choosing Illinois. However, my parents are concerned about how I will fit in given that UIUC is over 70% in-state and around 15% international. Last year's freshman class consisted of just 41 students from my home state of New York. Does anyone have any experience being out of state at UIUC or think I will have a hard time fitting in?

Well, the in-state people are from all over the state. It’s not like all the in-state people stay in some Illinoisan clique. I don’t see why you would have a hard time fitting in at UIUC.

^ I don’t know about that haha. For sure there are no cliques (location-wise, maybe some of the internationals like to stick together), but a lot of in-state students are from the suburbs of Chicago. I wouldn’t worry about fitting in because no one chooses their friends based on state, nor do most people know what state you are from to begin with. The campus has a decent amount of diversity in it, both regionally and ethically.
