OOS potential transfer

I right now am in my senior year, and with all this college talk going on, I heard a teacher at my school talk about Michigan (She graduated in 2008), and told me to look it up. Well I did and I am in awe. I am planning on going to a CC as my High School years weren't the best, so I had a couple of questions from people who know what happens in admissions, or people who transfered.
What kind of grades, EC's or other things should I try to achieve to get in?
How many semesters do I have to do in community college to be considered a serious applicant despite a very poor high school transcript?
I know Michigan is expensive, and I will qualify for a lot of need based aid, how generous is Michigan with their aid?
Thank you for all your help in advance

Most of the questions you asked depend on your individual circumstances, but you have provided no information for us to make an accurate determination.

UMich gives preference to students who transfer in with junior standing. The higher your GPA the better of course, but they tend to accept lower college GPAs than they do HS GPAs.

As a public university, they of course are far more generous with their aid to in-state students than out of state.

What information would you need to give me good answers? I figured they would be more generous to their in state students, just wondering in general how good they’re financial packages.

How many semesters of college you would need depends on your HS record, test scores, etc.

Their financial package generosity for depends on how much you need and, as well as, what kind of student you are for the need/merit-based hybrid aid. There is no “general” answer. I’ve read posts on here from OOS students who are surprised they got so much… and posts from OOS students who are angry they got so little with very low EFCs… it really seems to be luck of the draw when OOS.
