I just received an email saying that I am a recipient of the Provost Scholarship and wanted to start a thread for discussion with anyone else who received the same.

The email said that fewer than 40 students out of the more than 5,000 admitted will be presented this opportunity, so I count myself extremely blessed with this, as Tech is my #1 choice school.

Congrats to everyone who made it and I hope to see you at Tech!

I received the Provost too. It’s pretty awesome, isn’t it?!

I count myself extremely blessed as well. $80,000 across four years is huge.

I still can’t believe I received a huge merit scholarship that I didn’t even apply for! And, in my case, I won it as an international student! I didn’t even think they gave any money to internationals (beyond the President’s Scholarship). I hope we don’t have to keep up an unrealistically high academic standard for 8 semesters though…

On the email, it says “Over the next four years, the total value of this scholarship is approximately $80,000.”

However, on the Georgia Tech website, the Provost Scholarship page says the following:

“What is the amount of the Provost Scholarship?
The scholarship is for up to eight semesters of full time enrollment in an amount equal to the non-resident portion of tuition charges.”

Is the website out of date, or is the Provost a a full-OOS-tuition scholarship?!

@jerry, the scholarship is the difference between instate and OOS that you would pay which is approx. about $20k /year so that sounds about right!

As rani9933 said, The scholarship covers the difference between around 28,000 per year OOS tuition, and about 8,000 per year in state tuition. So we will still be paying around 8,000 a year, but that is still awesome! Way cheaper than many of my in state schools (which have the highest cost for public schools in the nation).

Also, may I ask where you are applying from? I lived abroad for 7 years and the experience has truly shaped my life.

Congrats to all who received the Provost Scholarship. You should be quite proud of yourselves. I have a son who hopes to compete for the same scholarship next year. Would you mind posting your stats, so that he has an idea of what he needs in order to be competitive. Thanks

Son received notice that he is also a recipient of the scholarship. He is extremely excited as Ga Tech is his number #1 choice. Looking at Aerospace Engineering.

He is an URM as well, Hispanic, from Tennessee.

I honestly don’t think it’s all about stats. My scores were average among the early admitted students (2150 SAT / 33 ACT). Quite truthfully, I think it was my essays. That being said, this was completely unexpected - I didn’t even know the Provost Scholarship existed!

Have any of you heard of another international applicant being awarded the Provost?

Speculating that about half (20) of the Provost Scholarships were awarded to EA admits, it’s crazy to realize that a good 25% of Provost winners have already posted on this thread. We’re only 20 out of 5,000 EA admits — only 0.4%. Goes to show CC’s high standard, and why it is completely unreliable for competition purposes.
