OOS Social Life at UF

I am a potential OOS student at UF. I will be visiting soon, but I was hoping students (oos and in state) could provide some insight on how students from out of state feel at UF. Do fraternities take oos kids? If so, which ones? Do oos kids find the kids friendly, and easy to make friends with considering a large amount of the school is in state students. Any experiences or insight is appreciated. Thanks so much.

I’m an incoming oos freshman and I applied to the out of state living learning community in Broward. I can’t speak for much else since I’m not there but maybe check it out.

Just put on your orange and blue and join the crowd!

As someone who went OOS to a school where I knew absolutely no one, I can say you should have no problem mixing right in. If you want to meet someone from your state, wear something that signals that (sports team, city/state etc.) and you will surely have someone come up to you from your own state (perhaps city or town as well) to introduce themselves. But really it should be no problem at all, in fact, something fun and interesting to talk about when you’re meeting new people, since the majority of students are from Florida.

The important thing is you’ll be a Gator, as gouf78 is saying!

Fraternities definitely take OOS kids. In fact, OOS kids seemed more likely to join a Greek organization since they generally don’t know people on campus. Here is a link to UF’s interfraternity council.

Rush happens twice a year at the beginning of the Fall and Spring semesters.Fall rush is typically very busy, while Spring rush is somewhat more laid back. Most fraternities are located on Fraternity Row on the west side of campus. Three of the 25 fraternities are located on the north side of BHG stadium on University Avenue, while three are located east of 13th Street near the Admissions office.

The fraternities vary significantly. Some are large with 120+ brothers with most having around 60 to 70. Some Fraternities have a very focused membership, while others will be very diverse. Whether you go Greek or not, you will not have a problem meeting plenty of people at UF.

Good luck!!!
