OOS students a state school

are there any OOS students at agood state school (michigan wisconsin psu)? what is the atmosphere like?Does everybody already hav a ciircle of friends before freshman year? is it easy to make friends? are you mostly friends with instate or out of state students?

i'm an instate student, but I don't think that instate students hang out with mostly instate kids, or anything like that, other than the fact that there are simply more instate kids here than out of state. Some of the instate kids know a few people, but not that many. 5 at most. I came with 7 other kids from my high school, but I hardly ever see any of them. Almost everyone I hang out with are people that I've met since I've been here (the exception being 1-2 people).

Its a complete myth that state schools are filled with cliques left over from high school.

THe reason i say that is because i swear like 60 people ffrom my high school go to mizzou so i thought it would be all the same people.

"Its a complete myth that state schools are filled with cliques left over from high school."

Not true, though not completely false. My friends from high school who went to UGA or other state schools are still almost exclusively friends with people from high school 2 years later. My best friend really has no friends outside of the people we went to high school with- and her school has 20,000+ people! This is not always true and might be relatively unique to my school because my high school is the biggest feeder school into UGA. The majority of college-going students either go to UGA or transfer in from another state school after 2 years. About 200 people from my class of 500 went to UGA so there it is.

However, schools like mine are relatively rare. Most people won't have such a large crowd going with them to school. Especially at schools like Michigan and Wisconsin which are some of the top schools in the country and definitely elite in terms of state schools, this shouldn't be such a problem.

Well...it doesn't hold true at my SUNY school anyway.

About the cliques from high school, I've noticed that there are people who were good friends in high school and are going to the same college and always thought they would be friends, but now realize they have nothing in common, but they can't shake the other person...
