Hi all! I have been working my ass off so I can transfer to a college in California of Fall 2018. I plan to apply to many, UC’s & CSU’s, but my top choice is UCB…mostly because I want to get a degree in Rhetoric. I am honestly just curious if my credentials would sound at least decent to admitions. I am currently working on my UC application now.
Here’s a little about me:
- Have a 3.89gpa
- In Phi Theta Kappa
- Will graduate with honors
- Taken numerous advanced composition courses (not sure if that would help my chances, but so far i have a strong focus in communication & comp.)
- Compete on the Speech & Debate team
- OUT OF STATE (William Rainey Harper College)
- I work at my school in the Liberal arts dept.
- I have many volunteer experiences
Besides above, does anyone have advice on comprising a strong application? I know being out of state hinders some of my chances…so I want to try my hardest to stand out. I’m currently writing my Personal Insight responses for the UC app and any advice would be greatly appreciated.
you look like a well qualified applicant but, please understand, you’ll pay the full OOS rate. There will be no aid. Someplace like Cal, that’s more than $50k per year. For a CSU like SDSU, think $30k+.
Is that really in your budget?
I agree that you look like a competitive applicant but also be aware you have low priority since in-state applicants are these schools first priority.
You have to remember that the UC’s are public universities that are partially funded by California taxpayers so the priority for admission goes to California residents.
California Freshman and CCC students have priority. These are followed by other UC to UC transfers, CSU transfers, California HS grads at private uni’s, and then everyone else.
So it doesn’t matter that you
because your priority for admission is lower. Plus, you want to get into UCB which is impacted, competitive and expensive. The UC’s don’t have to accept your coursework and, typically, they don’t so you would have to retake courses that don’t articulate with the university.
Oh, did I forget to mention that there is NO funding for OOS students. The State of California cannot afford to provide any financial aid/scholarships to non-residents. So you would be on the hook for $60K per year.
(BTW it’s admissions not admitions)
