The video
Op-Ed: Advanced Pressure - YouTube

I know this is kind of and old video, but what do you think about it? Personally I take AP classes for two reasons, to challenge myself, and to be around people who will challenge themselves. I'm taking 4 this year, 5 next year, that's the max for my school, but I believe people around here have way taken more. Side note, do you think that girl who's "Joints swelled" was just a wimp, cuz I do haha.

Eh. I have mixed feelings regarding this video.

A part that I do agree with is the whole concept of the quantity over quality aspect of the AP realm. My AP science teacher is often distraught with the fact that she cannot teach us a material that she’s passionate about in a way that’ll stick with us because she needs to move at a pace that is conducive to the exam in May.

But the bottom line is, we do not live in a society that appreciates students who go out and experience their curriculum to their fullest, even if it’s through a College Prep or Honors Course - we praise those who go out and take the most rigorous courses, even if it in a discipline they despise, simply because it means a higher GPA, and a better looking resume. Yes, in an ideal world, we would all go to High School, and actually learn and have teachers open our eyes to the true splendors of Biology or English Literature - but that’s not the case. At the end of the day, the end result is our transcript and how far that will get us in terms of higher education, and eventually, employment.

This is a very good video, because it’s so funny to see students take AP classes just to beat the kid next to them. There’s nothing wrong taking 2 or 3 AP classes throughout high school, it’s about interest. Yeah AP courses are designed to expose high school students to college level classes and material, but for some students it’s a game. These students are experiencing this stress because they’re taking on more than they can handle. A student would take AP US History, AP Lang, AP Psych, AP Environmental, AP Chem etc, just to say that they’ve taken so and so AP classes. In the video I really like what Dr. Stipek said about how students are only working for the the college application not the experience of college itself.
