Race to Nowhere

They're screening this documentary in our school called "Race to Nowhere". Basically it's pointing out the flaws in our education system and how education is basically a competition.

Here's a video thing: YouTube - Op-ed AP rev_012210.mov

So whatdya think? I disagree with the documentary. I mean yes, these AP courses are stressful and demanding, but they're beneficial. I think if we get used to working hard now, things will be easier for use in the future as opposed to taking everything easy now and being in a state of shock when you get thrown into the real world.

Anyways, what do you think? Do you think schools are too hard on us? That there's too much pressure to succeed? Comments?

I think it’s hard to generalize for the schools overall. Some schools have AP classes that make university courses look easy; other schools have AP classes where everyone gets an “A” for the year and a 1 on the actual exam. The idea of AP exams is a good one; the execution of this idea is problematic. As for pressure…on CC, there is definitely a lot of pressure to succeed. In the real world…not so much. Just my opinion, though.

Depends on the AP course/school.

Some can be taught inexplicably well, others, not so much.
It has flaws, US Education has flaws.

It’d be great to have a President actually do something, and not worry about the political agenda.

IB Education not that great.

It looks gooooood I wanna see it

I just thought… were AP Classes equivalent to a Semester, or a year-long college course?

First results leads to CC… of course.
