Hi Candace,

Hope your open house goes well! After you get home and rest, we would love to hear what you learned. We are going down over Spring Break for a tour. When we went to Charleston last summer we ate at Hyman's and loved it. It was reasonably priced by Charleston standards and had the nicest staff. One of the owners (Mrs. Hyman maybe?) came around to talk with us and sent us a platter of fried green tomatoes on the house! We also loved Sticky Fingers- the ribs are the best we have ever had! We enjoyed the aquarium. I don't know if you and your daughter are into that kind of thing, but for my marine science loving kids, it was well worth the trip. There is so much to do..... If you want to drive out to the beach, the Isle of Palms is only about a 15-20 minute drive. Not a big beach, but quaint and quiet. The shopping is to die for......We did find that some of the stores on King Street closed at 6 so be aware of that. (Not like the mall hours we are used to).

Anyway, have a great time and I hope you and your girl get to see and hear all that you can.

KandKsmom

Thanks, KandKsmom, I am looking forward to our mini vacation. Our spring break is this week, so the date of the open house was perfect. She does not want to miss any school to do visits. I am sure we will save time for plenty of shopping.

Well, we are back from open house. We had a great time in Charleston. But the weather was cold. I am so glad that I made my daughter bring her polar fleece jacket. The open house was a very fun day. We had the best tour guides. We were very entertained. The information session was upbeat. The best part was meeting with members of the education department. They covered lots of information and answered all our questions. I was very impressed with the department. The only negative is my daughter wants a more typical dorm situation. She thought College Lodge was awful. I thought it was a little scary. It doesn't help that it is next to a construction site. I thought Berry was the nicest, but she prefered McCallister because it is coed.

Anyone else go to the open house? I would love to hear some other thoughts. My daughter is concerned about being the only out of state girl in a suite with all in state girls. Does anyone know anything about the roommate selection process. Can you request an out of state roommate?

I went to the open house candace. I am currently a senior from out of state and am pretty sure I am going to cofc. I think they said that about 30-40% is from out of state and I am sure that anyone wanting a random roommate is looking forward to meeting new people (or at least I hope so! since I'm requesting one). I absolutely loved the open house though, that sealed the deal for me.

Yes, my daughter loved the open house as well. She just was a little concerned about the suite dorms. She wants a traditional dorm. I heard that two new dorms will open next fall and they will be semi-suite. She really liked everything else about the school. The meeting in her major was very informative. And the biggest plus was that everyone on and off campus was so friendly. This is our first school visit. Next, we need to visit Elon to see what a campus school feels like. They seem like opposites in alot of ways. Elon has more out of state, is smaller and is in a small town. My daughter is not sure which school she will like better.
