Should I take APCS in senior year, or a gap period, and focus on building my project? Im looking at how this will affect my chances at top schools (think CMU/MIT), but ALSO at my targets (think UMD), where they might think I’m a slacker, because I can’t prove a correlation. I know all of APCS, I’m only looking at the open period because it gives me more time. Im a CS Candidate
What’s your project?
What classes are you taking beside that one or open period?

I agree with @MYOS1634 …what other courses are you taking?
What do you hope to major in?
What else are you doing after school?
WHat is your project? Is it STEM related?
Because if you were taking Calc BC and a couple of other AP classes and are on the track team and don’t have a lot of time, then sure, take the free period to work on your project. Will you logistically be able to work on it? e.g., if all you need is a computer then you should be fine.
