OPIM 101 vs CIS 110/ESE 112

I understand that dual degree candidates who aren't in M&T can take CIS or ESE for OPIM 101 credit. My question is, would it be worthwhile to take OPIM even if you are taking CIS 110? The two courses are pretty different (java vs visual basic), and OPIM seems like something very useful for people going into finance. Any thoughts?

Also, systems engineering candidates can take ESE 112 or CIS 110; which one is better?...and how does ESE 301 compare to STAT 430?

Thanks!

If you know Java, VBA takes 5 minutes to learn. Also, OPIM 101 isn't a programming class - it's very basic operations and information management plus an introduction to Excel, VBA, and SQL (also very basic). If you want to learn about operations and information management, take OPIM 101 in the fall. Otherwise, I wouldn't recommend it. You'll learn how to use Excel in other classes.

Sorry for bumping such an old thread.

Can wharton single degree people use CSE/CIS 110 credit to place out of OPIM 101?

Nope. OPIM 101 is part of the Core.
