Opinions needed please: Taking a 9 AM class now vs. taking it during the summer at a later time?

I’m not really a morning person but that’s mainly because I have insomnia and usually don’t sleep before 12. However, I need credit for a class which I’ve checked is usually only offered at an early time (i.e. 8 AM or 9 AM). During the summer it’s usually offered at a later time (i.e. 10 AM-) during the second half of summer (mid-July to late-August). I commute via the bus to class and it usually takes me about 40 minutes. I’ve made my schedule so that I’m only taking MWF classes so if I choose to take the class next semester, I’ll have classes from 9-10, 10-11, and 12-2 on MWF.

Basically,
PROS:
-I’ll get it out of the way
-Maybe it’ll force me to develop better sleeping habits
-The second half of my summer will be free

CONS:
-I’ve never taken a class before 10:30, so I don’t know what to expect
-I’ll have to wake up extra early so I probably won’t have time to eat breakfast
-Longer days?

Honest opinions please.

What job you going to get when you graduate which allows you to,show up at 10:30?

@yourmomma I knew this was going to come up lol. I’m just trying to live up the most of my college life I suppose.

I never took early classes in college. I lived at home and commuted. I did work the last three years and a couple of days a week I had to be at work at 9. On those days, I went to school after work. I found that I had more than enough ability and energy to get to work at 9 because I was being paid but I was never able to make it to an early class. On the days when I didn’t work, my earliest class was never before 10. My commute was 20 minutes. I have been out in the working world for over 35 years and manage to get myself to where I need to be.

You need to consider if it would be easier to suceed during a semester vers the summer. Summer courses tend to crammed into a shorter time period. Less time to absorb and master the material. Easier to fall behind. A lot depends on the course and your time management skills.

Also, a course during the summer could limit you ability to work if that is an issue.

You should take advantage of being able to make your schedule. If you have insomnia* and an early class would cut even more on your sleep, taking the class at a better time for your physiological needs is very important. However you need to understand that the class would be compressed - you couldn’t do much beside go to class and study during that time.

  • You may not have insomnia but DSPS. If you're tested for it, it's considered a disability and can receive accomodations.

9am isn’t early.
