I wont post my common app (nor send it around), but I wrote my main essay on my family and our weird quirks (very light hearted, pretty funny) and I feel it shows my priorities and personality.

Do you think a lighthearted essay can be perceived as refreshing and interesting to adcoms, or can an essay come off as "too" light, as some ccers have told me?

Honestly, almost any topic (and the success of any essay) is based almost entirely on how it’s written. If you feel like your essay presents a good idea of who you are and demonstrates your best writing ability, then I say go for it. If not, reconsider. If you want to send even a snippet, I can let you know how I think it reads. I’m already in college, so no worries there.

I wrote mine on being tall, and if I flatter ymyself, it wad pretty funny. Don’t force introspection if you’re not the type.
