Opinions on the state colleges in Michigan? ( Specifically Western, and Northern)

What have you heard/are your opinions on Western and Northern Michigan university? I was also looking at lake superior state. What kind of kids go to these schools?

What are you thinking of studying? Western is a lot larger than Northern, with better sports and easy access to SE Michigan and Chicago. Both Kalamazoo and Marquette are reasonably nice college towns. Northern’s student body is mainly from the UP and Wisconsin and pretty wholesome. There are a lot of international students too. Western draws from all over the state and Kalamazoo college is nearby for a bit of variety. LSS is really small Ste. Saint Marie is a bit depressed.

You get the middle of the road college students at both of these universities, lots of B students. Neither schools has many commuters.

Northern is in a gorgeous setting and many of the students who attend are outdoorsy. My S has really loved the honors classes at Northern. What we’ve heard is that many times the professors at Northern are really wonderful, could work anywhere, but choose to work at Northern because of the setting. I’m not sure this is totally true, but is true at least of my son’s advisor. S applied to LSS too, but never visited. Don’t know much about Western, but what is said above sounds right on to me.

Both of you were super helpful thank you!! But to answer your question ill probably major in marketing
