My son is a current high school interested in univ of rochester. Music is very important to him but he doesn’t want to majo music or double major. Are there opportunities to continue his passion–ensembles or lessons available?
There are a few ensembles on the River campus. All you need to do is demonstrate to the director that you are an intermediate player–very low key audition. The payoff is that you get free lessons from grad students at the Eastman school.
D was a math major but played bassoon for all 4 years.
There are numerous opportunities to get involved with music at Rochester. My daughter plays the violin in the chamber ensemble, takes lessons at Eastman and is in several smaller quartets. It is a great place to continue to pursue a music interest with out majoring in it or attending Eastman.
Thanks for this thread. My D was accepted to Rochester this evening. She plays viola and she would be thrilled to continue to play at the University of Rochester through the Eastman School of Music in any of their ensembles.
@luckybooth, the kids on the River Campus play in their own ensembles, not those at Eastman. They do however get free lessons at Eastman. At least that’s how it was when D was there 7 yr ago.
