We live in southwestern CT closer to NY. What are the best ways to travel from CaseWestern to CT/NY.
We drove back and forth to cleveland and felt pretty hectic..especially across PA. Despite, the fact this is the best time of the weather, we felt it is very hectic. Certainly it will be more tough during the 7 months of the year excluding the summer.

Is it too dull and depressed during the winter times..!? What type of interaction students have during such time?

What are all the best mode of travelling if my D is visiting home. How often is a practical one.?

Also, how often you need to vacate your dorm during the year when you are visitng home.? We feel everything is great but the reachability. Any thoughts.

How much support CWRU extends in finding jobs or help in finding higher education., after completing the undergrad.

We are deciding between BU and the cleared waitlisted admission of CWRU.
Opportunities wise, is it comparable to BU..?

There are lots of NYC-area kids at Case. Our kid has been driven, flown, and taken the bus from Port Authority in Manhattan. Depending on when you take it, it takes anywhere from 9-12 hours. You can get from the Cleveland bus station or airport to Case on public transportation. Most NYC kids come home for all the major breaks.

The only time I think you have to vacate the dorm is at the end of the year. What they do for breaks is close the dining hall after lunch on Friday (or Weds for Thanksgiving, etc.).

The kids there seem to cope OK with winter, but both Boston and Cleveland have pretty tough winters.

Thank you so much for the response. Would like to hear any tips or any more info on the commuting / flying for the long weekends.
Also would like to know how CASE help their senior students to find any job… How good the networking at CASE. Do they seriously help the student in finding a job…!?

Hi Psr251,
My son has flown to/from NYC on American Airlines and Southwest. If you buy the web specials from Southwest, you can get some good deals. I looked into Amtrak and the trip seemed to take about 20 hours for about $100. For $148, his latest fare on Southwest, from Islip to CLE, it’s worth the extra $ to save 18 hours! Also, I know of a great cabbie in CLE that you can call ahead to pick up. He’s also available for other “chores” if you want, let me know. He charges $40 to pick up from Case to CLE. very reliable, prompt and texts you when he picks your son up and drops him off.

Case16mom: How does your son get to the Bus station and how much and how long is the ride?

Southwest is generally the cheapest airline that flies from CLE to the Northeast, though all flights usually require a layover in Baltimore or Chicago. If you add in the two free checked in bags, it’s totally worth the longer travel time. Greyhound is also an option, there is usually overnight service available from CLE to Newark. A ton of CWRU students come from the Northeast, so you can always carpool with some of them and split gas.

CLE isn’t depressing during the winter. You will be living in a campus with ~4,500 undergrads and ~6,000 grad students so there are plenty of people to keep things lively.

You do not need to vacate your dorm during breaks.
