I took history courses at Northwestern, and I enjoyed them very much. I think no matter where you go, history classes (especially at the introductory level) will be somewhat large because they serve as distribution requirements and history is a popular major among college students. It also depends on what field of history interests you. For instance, I took a lot of social and urban history courses because that was my background. NU was the perfect place to learn it. If you’re more interested in Latin American history, UTexas is hard to beat.

Do the more in depth classes get significantly smaller and more Socratic?

Willing to take anyone else’s two cents :)

Okay I was misinformed. The cost difference would be 100k to 185k. Only a 20k less difference, but still… thoughts?

Any last minute opinions?

I need more votes!!!

No, you don’t need anyone else’s vote. You need to sit down and make out a list of pros and cons for each school, as they relate to your needs and your interests.

I also think you need to decide what you are most interested in studying as an undergraduate.

You know, it is hit and miss who sees your thread, who has the time to respond, whether the responders have any actual experience with the various schools. You shouldn’t be collecting votes as if they all have equal weight. You don’t know which ones to give any weight to.

Calm consideration, followed by a confident decision. A decision you do not second-guess. You can do it.

Fair enough.

I’ve already made a ton of T-Charts, and the fact is that these schools are all so different that their pros and cons are impossible to compare.

And I’m not counting all votes of equal weight. I just wanted more objective and less emotionally compromised insight.

I appreciate the advice though. I know at the end, it is my choice to make.

If you are familiar with your family’s finances and know that the extra $$$ NU wouldn’t be a significant strain, go with NU.

I think the main issue here is cost. Without considering cost, NU is definitely superior.
