Optional Supplement Question

I want to submit some of my writings. I know that on the arts supplement they ask for a resume, and I'm assuming they want one for creative writing as well. My teachers say my pieces are really good, but I haven't been published and have received only one small award. Is it even worth sending in my pieces or will they not care that I haven't been published?

I'm not a published writer because personally, i dont believe in vanity press (publishing at a young age is usually just to say "oh I've published a book...blah blah blah). I'm sending in a short story that I've been writing since july, which is an adaptation of a piece I wrote in 6th grade, and whoever has read it finds it excellent and thought provoking, so dont worry about not getting published. it should be fine.

go for it, im not sending in extra writing, but im trying to show them writing's an important interest/activity of mine throughout my application
