From Elon’s getaccept’d page: “The Elon University Music Theatre program celebrates the creative and unique artist. We urge you to submit one video that can be anything you want – be creative, bold and unique!”
I’m wondering what type of video others may have submitted for this. It’s optional, but it seems like it would be a waste not to take advantage of another opportunity to show one’s talents. But it’s so open-ended, my D and I are not sure what to use. Footage from a past show? Footage of her working with kids (teaching dance, so related to the major)… Would someone mind describing what they submitted?
Not applicable to me so I can’t directly answer. However, the examples you cited (past show, working with kids, etc) don’t strike me the least bit as creative, bold, or unique. My two cents for whatever it’s worth. Good luck!
This may be too late for the original poster but for future years…my son is fluent in French so he submitted the optional video of a popular French classic song. It must have worked because he got through prescreens. He also thought about a monologie as the Shrek character in pseudo Scottish accent. This is the chance to do something they tell you NOT to do in a traditional audition. Two things I would warn about - 1) it has to be equally as impressive as their “real” submissions. In other words, don’t submit something like intoductory piano just to show versatility or stumble through a foreign language song. 2) when they say “optional” it typically isn’t. Don’t pass up the opportunity to sell your unique side. Skipping the optional part might show a lack of effort or a lack of being different.
My son played the ukulele while singing the song “Creep” by Radiohead as first Bane from the Batman movie, and then as Kermit the Frog. I filmed him doing it…and had tears running down my face as I tried not to laugh out loud! Definitely creative, bold, and unique…and made me laugh! No idea if he will get in…but it was a fun one! He used the same video as his “wild card” for other schools he auditioned for…and he did get into those! Some folks out there have a sense of humor!
My daughter played a radio talk show host and a cast of characters who called in to give their opinion on why she should be admitted to Elon. It was so funny I cried and one character in particular was brilliant… she was admitted academically but she didn’t pass their MT prescreen. So there you go, no idea what they want!
My D submitted a video of a group dance she choreographed and led for her school’s cheerleading squad during football season. No idea if it was what they wanted, but she passed the MT prescreen.
