Anyone know how many words Pomona is expecting in the Optional Writing Sample on the Required Supplement? Here are the question choices:

a) Reinvent your high school. What is essential? What would you change?
b) Although it may appear to the contrary, we do know that people have a life beyond what they do to get into college. Tell us about an experience youve had outside of your formal classroom and
extracurricular activities that was just plain fun.

I wrote on the "reinvent hs" topic, and my essay was 2 pages, 1.5 spaced - probably the longest of my essays. I figure that if they didn't post a word limit, the essay shouldn't have fluff, but shouldn't be overly constrained by word count, either. I actually thought that the reinvent hs topic was one of the best college essay topics I've seen. Have fun!

I also reinvented my hs and it turned out to be 1.25 pages, single spaced. I assumed there was no word limit, but when i tried pasting the essay into the text box on the comm app page, i found out there's a 4500 character limit (including spaces). My essay excedes the limit by a paragraph so i'm going to send it in as a hard copy.

Sorry to hijack this thread but i have a related question...
Can i submit my comm app supplement online and then send the essay by mail or do i need to be consistent with my medium?

You could do that, but if you're sending the essay by mail, why not send the entire package? I'm sure the Admissions Office would thank you for it! ;)

Well i actually called Pomona today and the said it would be fine if i sent the essay separate from the supplement. The admissions officer i talked to was supre friendly about it and it didnt sound like a problem at all. :)

Yeah, I submitted my common app online but I mailed in the supplement. The adm. off. who did the info session when I visited campus specifically said that they don't care either way. Whatever works for you!
