Options after withdrawing from college?

I'm a freshman at a UC school and, in a nutshell, am just having a really difficult time at college. My first quarter ends in less than a month and I've yet to make friends or feel any sort of motivation towards academics, which kind of scares me because I was a great student in high school. I'm also struggling financially and with the proposed tuition hikes, I really hate the thought of me taking out even more loans and putting my family through more stress just for me to continue struggling and being unhappy at school.
Ideally, I would like to transfer to a UC close to home (UCSD) but I know my chances for that happening this year are pretty slim. What would my options be if I withdrew from my current UC after the fall quarter? Could I continue at a community college without losing my credits and junior-transfer into a UC?
(I know, I know, I should call the counseling and academic advising offices but everyone seems to have taken Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday off for the Veteran's Day holiday. I'm too anxious to drop the idea until Monday)

Thanks for reading.

You can definitely go to community college and then transfer to another school. And I don’t see a reason why you would lose your UC credits.

Before you take the drastic and irrevocable step of withdrawing, ask if you can take a leave of absence for a quarter or two. Maybe a few months at home will give you time to sort things out.
