Options for a friend???

Hey everyone,
I wanted to post some stats of a friend of mine to help her with the college search process. She doesn't have too much support at home and I wanted to give her some options. Any advice on what colleges she should look at would be very helpful. Well here goes....

Black Female
lower middle class
3.8-3.9uw GPA
4.2w
6-7 APs by graduation
she got a 4 on the U.S. Hist. exam
30/400
Okay public school (not really competitive)
1940 on mock SAT test, she will probably score in the 2000's when she actually takes the test; the mock was awhile ago.
She is a great writer and intends for it to be her focus in college, or possibly law.
Her parents don't really plan on contributing much to her college. Maybe like $1,000 :(. So colleges that offer a lot of aid would be the most practical.

core classes she has taken
5 English
3 science
4 math
4 Hist.
4 years latin

EC's
community service-100 hours....various things mostly to do with her church
Latin Honor society-3 years. Officer senior year
NHS-two years
co-founder of two clubs at school
one other club (can't remember the name) but member for Junior and Senior years (IMPORTANT: you can't join until junior year)
2 years karote(SP?)
Junior summer internship at a local law firm
She spends most of her time writing, so she isn't involved in too much.

Her personality:
Very outgoing and smart. She is religious and politically moderate. Heavy party schools wouldn't fly with her.

Thanks to everyone who read all this. And again any incite would be helpful.

where does she live? going to an in state school would reduce housing costs.

always a friend... ;)

She lives in Maryland. And cujoe169 I can assure she is a friend. You can check my previous posts and you will see that I have posted several times for myself. However, I can def. see your point. It seems that a large number of people on this board post every person they have ever met stats. :)

oh no i wasn't trying to imply anything... i'm just saying, that there are A LOT of posts that say a friend... lol

She would have a chance for the very top colleges with a 2000 plus SAT and good references. If her parent's income is under $60K, she will very probably get a better deal from a private that meets 100% of need than she will from a state school.

Okay... Your friend has a good shot at great schools.

Thank you all for your replies! Do you know any specific schools that you offer her good writing opportunities?

URM/Economically disadvantaged should help her chance much. She might want to aim at some top LACs which will care less about her stats. Middlebury comes to my mind.

If she wants to be a journalist Northwestern and Syracuse are two schools with good, well known journalism schools. However, any of the ivies and top LACs would have great writing classes and as they are better schools in general, she may want to go in that direction.

Middlebury sounds good but she may also want to look into Bowdoin.
