If I make my essay about the same thing I did my EC short answer on the common app on, would that be alright? It DOES say that you can say more about something, but I dont know if this would work

Unless you are writing about it from a wholly different perspective, my gut instinct is to say no. Now, are these the same exact EC, or are they simply related? (e.g., are they both about volunteering for, say, the Obama campaign, or do they both fall under the umbrella term of politics). Consider it this way- you want to show all the ways you are unique to the admissions officers. By just giving them more of the same, its sort of a waste of an essay.

If you gave us a little bit of specifics I think itd help us give you more advice, though.

I just thought of it as another commonapp essay

Yeah it is the same exact EC ._.

Is it possible for me to do a different EC paragraph for the common app, send that to yale with this essay I wrote, and then for all my other schools put back the original EC paragraph?

Yes it is possible, just make different versions of the CA.

CA says you’re not supposed to. But you can make multiple versions for different schools, yes.

I’m a pretty by the rules sort of person, when the rules make sense that is. Since supplemental questions are different at each school and since what interests an applicant at a school may vary, I see absolutely no reason why they shouldn’t be able to change their essay or any other part of the application if they so choose. What a student puts in their application is between the school and the applicant, the CA is just the vehicle that is supposed to be facilitating applying to colleges, not making up rules.

Rant over. (Note: my rant is directed at the CA, not you ccuser18 ;))

^^ Agree 100% percent.

I understand, and agree, but I was just presenting the facts to the OP.
