Where do most of you order your disposable contacts from?
1800 Contacts - customer service out of Utah and great experience year after year. Can even return for credit partial used boxes, if your RX changes.
Walgreens. I can usually find an online coupon
My kids order through their eye docs. The docs always have coupons and the prices were even comparable to Costco.
This is what we do. Contact lenses are a commodity that are the same almost everywhere. If prices at your doctor after rebates are similar to Costco or 1-800, get them there. You want your doctor to be there for you in the future. If they mark them up too much, get them elsewhere. If you find prices cheaper than 1-800 or Costco, they’re counterfeit, substituted with unlike products, or gray market.
I agree. Don’t be afraid to talk to your eye doctor about his/her cost compared to buying them elsewhere. You might be surprised.
1-800 contacts all the way. They have the best customer service. Real people answer phones right away. Speak English and always very helpful. Think chick fila or Disney level of customer service.
And will freely fill your expired Rx year after year while you unknowingly develop glaucoma, melanoma, or some other eye condition you wish you’d had diagnosed much earlier. They might be nice to you on the phone, but they have their own financial interest placed well above your health interest. Caveat Emptor.
I go to an eye doctor for prescriptions. I would hope they would catch problems.
Hubble
Another person who orders from the doctor. Other places were cheaper and the coupon didn’t work.
But I was happy to help a small business and buy from them. I also order my glasses from them always.
I have ordered from Walgreens in the past. I remember the price being a bit better and I have rewards with them.
They would.
The problem with 1-800 is that they will continue to fill your prescription long, I mean YEARS after it’s expired. People who don’t routinely see their eye doctors can run into trouble.
They always want my eye doctor to refill it and contact her themselves if it’s been over a year (like during covid). I know they have the online service, but never once have I had a person push it on me or even let me know it’s available.
It doesn’t quite work the way they want you to think it does. They send Rx verifications via fax or automated phone call. Written into their verification is a clause that if it isn’t replied to within a specified time, they will take that as a yes. They fax and call at odd hours, in the middle of the night, on weekends, etc. leaving tiny windows for busy staff to address them. If they work for you and you’re getting routine eyecare, great! They’re looking out for you just like the people who sell “free range” chicken are though. It’s not what it seems. It’s all about putting as much money in their pockets as they can, ethically or not.
From their own web site:
“The FCLCA has determined that a seller of contact lenses who must verify a prescription must wait 8 business hours once the required information has been successfully communicated to the eye care provider office. If the seller does not receive verification response within that given time frame the seller is allowed to ship the contact lens order.”
Well that’s good to know though I’ve been denied before. My doctor is a stickler for everything. I only seemed to get by during covid. And she only works 3 days a week and doesn’t have anyone else to answer the phone.
My D used to get her contacts from Costco. Not sure whether H gets his from Ophthamologist or Costco.
Always from Costco. My ophthalmologist couldn’t match the price (daily disposable, no astigmatism or other issues).
Thanks all! My eye doctor (ophthalmologist) handed me the prescription and told me that I could fill it cheaper elsewhere. Thank you for all your replies. I will check out these places tomorrow.
