We have the choice between a three-day camping trip, an overnight camping trip, or numerous day trips. Can any students who have been through orientation comment on the pros and cons of these various options? Thanks.

Also, what is the closest “national” bank to campus?

Bank of America is the closest, no more than a 5 minute walk from campus.

I went on the three day beginners’ canoeing trip. I’m unsure of the details now that they’ve changed the programs a bit since my first year, but I think it’s generally the same. The overnight and three day trips are a great chance to see the local outdoors and make friends early in the year. I believe the overnight trips stay closer to campus and the three day trips are a bit farther away. When making your decision, it really depends on how much time you want to spend without a shower Upperclassmen lead the trips, so you get a lot of insight and advice about Amherst in general, which is really nice. I had a great time!

The day trips are community-engagement outings where you learn more about the Pioneer Valley and the opportunities for service in the area. I hear they’re fun as well.

I have no idea what percentage of students do which trips, but you won’t feel left out with any option. If you stay on campus, there’s still plenty of stuff going on! Do whatever you want; you won’t regret it.
