Orientation class registration question

Hello,
On Orientation last day, when does class registration starts, please?
I am assigned 3:00 time slot on July 30th (2nd and last day) for School of Biological sciences.
I am VERY concerned that my time slot is so late, so by the time I sign up for classes I will not get into CHEM2A.
I am hoping to pass the Math placement exam and chemistry placement exams.
Based on that, I am hoping to do Math17A, Chem2A, GE and FRS
Will it be all gone by then, and what do you suggest to do or take?
Thank you

Your registration time is the same as everyone else’s in your orientation group. Your peers are not going to have an earlier orientation time than you. When I had orientation, my class registration time was 5pm and I got into all the classes I wanted. There are also several different sections to the CHE 2A class because they know they’ll get a lot of freshmen. JeSuis can correct me on this, but I believe they open up a few new spots for each orientation group until they reach their cap.

Yes, everyone has the exact same pass time. Each orientation group will be put in a random order and your orientation leader will help everyone sign up for classes in that order. sopranokitty is correct; there is a seat release system that opens up spots in certain classes during each orientation. This means having a later orientation does not put you at a disadvantage whatsoever for getting into Chem 2a, Math 17a, etc.

Sopranokitty and JeSuis, you are both such a GREAT help. Thank you.
So AP unit credits do not effect registration of classes at orientation?
Also, what is the best way to prepare for orientation class registration? do you like to see the CRN’s or class names, or 4 year plan? Do I sign up for the classes or do I wait for the orientation leader to sign me up?
I am VERY nervous about not getting Chem2A for FQ…
Thank you very much
Sue

Nope, not at all. They’ll count once you’re already a registered student, because then I believe you’ll have a better Pass 1 time in winter quarter.

I use this[/url”>Office of the University Registrar (OUR)]this to check how many seats are available for the classes I want. It also has the CRN numbers.

I also recommend using NinjaCourses to set up your schedule. However, they don’t have Fall 2013 classes available yet.

At my orientation, we had 5-10 minutes to gather and go look through the course catalog for classes we wanted before our orientation leader had us sign up for classes in an assigned order.

Thank you sopranokitty for the info.
If i set up my scedule by the time it is my turn, could these classes be already filled up.

How would I know about the newly opened seats, do they open them the same day of class registration or before hand?

Thank you very much

You can use [this page](Office of the University Registrar (OUR)) to keep track of how many seats are open. Just type in the course name and then click on search.

how about sisweb <a href=“CAS – Central Authentication Service”>CAS – Central Authentication Service;

when is that used, please?

Sisweb is used when you want to register for classes, check appointment times, etc.

You can also look up classes on sisweb, but I find the course search tool to be MUCH easier to look at when you need quick info on a class.
