I need to start planning for my son’s trip to OSU for orientation which requires some advance planning as we are traveling from the Lone Star State. My son is signed up for the orientation session that begins on June 16-17 and his designated arrival time is 7:45 AM on the first day. Since we are flying to Columbus, this requires us to arrive the day before. What I’m uncertain of is when does orientation conclude for the purpose of making our flight arrangements home on June 17? My son could not find any info on the OSU student portal identifying at around what time orientation concludes. Does anyone know specifically, or based on prior experience, whether the second day of orientation concludes around noon or later that evening? Thanks in advance for any responses.
Check out this link. If you google “sample schedule Ohio State orientation”, similar pages pop up. I am thinking you’ll be all done by 2pm. Hope this helps.
@fatherof2boys and @bakermom64 the registering for classes are assigned between 11:15 and 2:15 on the second day. My son experienced some delays and wasn’t done until 2:45. Afterwards he needed time to get his photo taken and pickup his buckeye ID at the Student Union. He then went to Barnes and Noble to pickup the free book (with the coupon provided) that all incoming freshman are required to read over the summer. And then he had to set up an account with a local bank. All these things took some time and required some running around because he wasn’t able to find time until after registration on the second day to do all this. So I would not book a flight home until early evening in order to allow some time to run any similar type errands and make sure everything is taken care of.
Thanks @bakermom64 for the hyperlink, I should have thought about searching for that and not simply relying on the info on BuckeyLink.
Also, thanks to @trackmbe3 for sharing the info about your son’s real-world experience, based on that I’'ll look to book an evening flight for us. Even if we have extra time to kill it will just give us more of an opportunity to explore campus/Columbus so I’m going to look into a flight at around 7 PM that evening.
We tried over a month ago and were unable to get rooms at the Blackwell or any other rooms on campus. However, we stayed at springfield suites (south end of campus) during an admitted students day and learned that there is an Ohio State rate. Decided to stay at Homewood Suites and I called up and asked if they had an Ohio State rate. They didn’t have a lot of options but did have one room that was about $90 less per night. You just have to ask as no one seems to advertise this.
