Orientation dates

I don’t think you can reserve classes. They say that once you attend orientation and get “trained” on how to use the class scheduler and registration tool, you can register for different classes or change your classes. Some classes that are not typically for college freshmen (Calc 2, gen chem 2, etc.) seemed like they were pretty full. I was registering for some of those classes and they had to open up spots for me. Maybe they will do that again, or maybe they will stop doing that. You might have to take a class like Chem 1 in the fall. Also, some classes are only offered in the spring.

Thanks for your replay Stewie. I guess i will be checking the class scheduler every minute after i am done with my orientation to see if someone has dropped the classes i need. If that doesn’t work, hopefully the professors will be kind enough to understand that i really need these classes to stay in track. I just finished one year of community college and i took chem 1 there already. I am not happy with the whole class schedule situation, but i am happy that i will be attending CBS this fall.

For those trying to figure out how to schedule your classes easy and actually see how your schedule would look check out “schedulizer”. Just google it and click U of Minnesota. It helped me a ton!

anyone else want to tell us about their orientation experience? anything we shouldn’t forget?

As Stewie said, make sure to be social. In the beginning you have to deal with a lot of ice breakers that high school teachers would do. If you stay quiet you would find it difficult to find a roommate for the night and wouldn’t really be able to enjoy yourself during the activities after the first day of orientation.

Thanks for the tip. Another question…do we need to bring our parents to this if they didn’t sign up for parent orientation? If they come with us, at what point are we on our own?

If your parents come you attend the first welcome meeting together then you break off on your own. You meet up again for a U-Card info session then you don’t see them again until you have to go home.
