Orientation sign up

Surprised there haven't been any threads about this considering it is tomorrow...

Anyways, I was wondering since I have school tomorrow, should I stay home and sign up myself? Or is it okay if one of my parents does it for me?

Thanks in advance.

i remember i did it after i got home from school, most of the orientation sessions were open (i got the last spot into the very first one)… but if you can sign up during school it would be easier (computer lab, teacher that likes you enough to let you sign up during class or iphone/blackberry?)

is the first session that popular?

Would we not get the classes we want if we sign up for later seesions? Like the 3rd session? I don’t think I can make it first/second session =[

you should be fine if you are in the first half of the orientations, its almost pointless to go at the first session as most classes are capped around 100 students (way more for the general lower div math and chem classes) so you should have no problem getting classes at 3rd session (although my year it was more popular than the first session)

so like i know we have to sign up @ myucla

but where exactly is the link/where is it going to be?
anyone?
i neeed the first session, so if anyone could help me, it’d be awesome.
like super thanks.

I plan to take

Math 31B
Econ 41
and an easy life sci GE with a lab component

31b fills up quick right? And wouldn’t most transfers get econ 41 if I attend the third session?

Shouldn’t we wait for AP scores to come in first? Would the 4th session allow me to sign up for all my desired classes? Math 31, econ whatever, and maybe a history class?

AP scores will come in before the first session… as for 31B it shouldn’t be hard because lower division math offers a lot of lectures so its easy to get into one of them…

You should have your AP scores before the frist session of orientation so that is not a problem. It is best if you can sign up for the first 3-4 sessions but it’s not the end of the world if it’s later. Just avoid say the 10th and 11th session. Remember that all continuing students will have registered for fall by the first orientation session so some classes will be close to full. It’s true that thay put a cap on them so if you are in the last session you don’t completely lose out. But later sessions will have less choice of discussion sessions for example. You basically have better luck putting together an ideal schdule the earlier you go.

If a parent can sign up for you (if you can’t do it yourself at school somehow) then I would do that. Otherwise as soon as you get home should be ok.

Don’t AP scores come out 7/15? And the first orientation is 7/6-7/8?

the colleges gets AP scores before you do so you’ll have it by orientation

“you should be fine if you are in the first half of the orientations, its almost pointless to go at the first session as most classes are capped around 100 students (way more for the general lower div math and chem classes)”

I really need to get a spot in the very first session. Will I be at a disadvantage when enrolling for classes? (I’m a CS major in the School of Engineering.) Am I wrong to think that I will have the best chance at a good schedule by going to the first session?

When I got home from school at 12:10, the first two sessions had already filled up. Stay home and get the first session. Anyhow, you’re a senior, just do it.

obviously the earlier the better i guess :D

Why did you say it’s “almost pointless to go at the first session” then?

What do we do at Orientation if we’re also enrolled in a summer class that meets those days?

This is important too.

dylpkls91, i said its almost pointless because the classes you need won’t be full after the first session, you said you are a CS major, so you’ll probably have to take chem 20a, cs 31 and whichever math you need to depending on your AP score, i personally have taken all 3 of those classes, chem 20a will have 2 lectures with 300 people in each, this year cs 31 had 3 lectures with about 150 in each, while math normally have at least 4 lectures with 150 in each… and guess what, the classes won’t be full if you don’t go to the first session so thinking that first session is important is stupid… that is why i said it is “almost pointless to go at the first session”!

Oh, I get it! Thank you for explaining what you meant. The first orientation date works best for me for other reasons (summer plans, etc), so I will still try for it. I was just hoping you didn’t mean that I should wait for a later one or something!

Ughhh if I have to take chem I will not be a happy camper

anyone know where the orientation link will be located?!

i dont want to waste time looking for it in myucla page.

so if anyone can tell me, i swear i’ll love you FOREVER ;P

^You can do ctrl + f and search orientation to find the orientation link quickly on myUCLA.
