Hey I was wondering for those students who are either attending Amherst or will be attending Amherst about the “Voices of the Class” part of Orientation. I got an email about giving them permission to read my essay at this event and I was wondering if they read part of everyone’s essay or just some peoples. The reason I ask is that I would kinda be embarrased/feel weird if they only read a couple but if everyone’s is read, I’ll feel a bit more at ease with my nerves. I know it’s a dumb question but if you know, please respond. Thanks and also, Good Luck to all the rising high school seniors applying to Amherst now. I hope you guys and girls have fun, if that’s possible, writing your essay for Amherst and hopefully you’ll get in to your top choice school.

I’m not really sure on the particulars, but from what my D told me, they do this in skit like form. I know the part of my D’s was funny and got a big laugh. They don’t say your name or use anything that can easily identify you, so nobody would know if they used part of your essay unless you told them.

Not everyone’s essay is read, but those of many people are.
It’s a fun event. They might read as little as one line, or as much as one paragraph.

An excerpt of my essay was used in Voices of the Class, and it was absolutely hilarious to see it acted out. The upperclassmen do a really great job making it cohesive and entertaining. It’s totally anonymous, and there are plenty of students’ essays used. I think it was at least an hour long event.
