Orientation, what's the jist of it?

Before I choose my orientation date, I'd like to ask a few questions. What exactly happens during an "orientation"? Do we have to bring parents or can we come alone? Where do we stay overnight? Thanks in advance.

Its all at this website. Every single answer in detail:[Freshman Orientation](http://www.sa.ucsb.edu/orientation/FreshmanOrientation/index.aspx)

Orientation pretty much acts as a time where you get to know the school, get the feel for the community, meet some new people, get academic counseling, and register for classes. Its not required of course but its highly recommended. I’ve been told that some of the counselors/advisers were useless but im still going. You can bring your parents but its an extra fee. They have a separate parent orientation.

If you choose to live in dorms, you will be living in Manzanita Village with a random same sex student. Or you can choose the option w/o accommodations if you choose to live in a motel.
