Hoping one of the parents of a current student might be able to help us! My daughter and I are going to Elon Friday for accepted students day. From what I can see there's only one more orientation left in the 19th and 20th which we aren't attending since daughter hasn't decided yet where she's going to school. If she chooses Elon will there be another orientation available? And if not, how will she pick her classes for the fall?

We were told that a folder with new student email address would be sent out mid April to those that have given their deposit. It will contain the information given at the orientation. It will have the class info and housing. Elon only has the two spring orientations, which I find odd, and then the orientation the weekend before school actually starts. We went to a Phoenix Friday and asked specifically because Prom happens to be that weekend. We were assured that it would not make a difference in class schedule or housing if we missed the Spring orientation. Actual class schedule is not determined until mid summer and housing is based on when you made your deposit, and other variables such as honors, learning groups, etc.

We were in your exact “shoes” this time last year. My D did not attend the Spring Orientation nor did she attend the Phoenix Friday. She did attend Fellows Weekend. You all will be fine missing the Spring Orientation. The only REAL thing your students are missing is “networking” with other students…meeting kids they might want to room with, making new friends, etc. However, Elon does such a FABULOUS job with their Orientation during Move In weekend that really, they aren’t missing anything. In terms of class selection, you will receive a package and I believe an email with detailed instructions about registration. Once you receive this pkg, you can also call Academic Advising for extra help too. But the process is very easy. Housing is also simple; housing info is sent to you via email. Both of these things (housing and registration) arrives after you pay the $500 deposit. Good Luck!

We are not able to make any of the formal admitted student programs this month, so we are going on our own–that is, not on an organized day–to see Elon. We will be taking the tour and meeting with some people, but I’m wondering if there is anything of note you might say to look for/see while we are there, that might not be on our radar? Thanks!

Momtraveler, just hang out in the dining hall areas and around mosely. sit on the commons. have your child randomly asky students any questions s/he has. look at the calendar on the web site on e-net and see what is going on on campus and attend. if your child knows of any organization or club that s/he is interested contact them and maybe meet some members.

finally, just enjoy!

I was just at Elon, attending Phoenix Friday because I too can’t make either of the orientation weekends. I was told that everything covered at orientation weekend will be sent out in the mail mid April so no worries there. Also, only about 55% of students attend the orientation weekend, so it shouldn’t make a difference! Good luck!
