Is it a bad idea to skip some of orientation? I have to go to a wedding on Labor Day during orientation. Is orientation really necessary? I hope that's not a dumb question. I'm doing a pre-o if that means anything. thanks!

Most people miss at least some of the sessions, but most of it actually is pretty important.

Whatever you do though, do NOT miss convocation on Wednesday night! :-)

Alright...what is the big deal of this convocation? Everyone hints about the happenings at convocation, but no one ever gives examples, pictures, details. C'mon!!!! Some of us nervous dads of Smithies need to know. LOL

"Some of us nervous dads of Smithies need to know"

. . . really, don't worry about it. it's fun, it's loud, your daughter may love it or she may hate it, but nothing bad or untoward or dangerous will happen. ratchet back the nervousness, leave some room for her nervousness.

but nothing bad or untoward ]]

Hi RA, I hope you're enjoying your summer.

If you use unruly as one of the definitions of untoward, well....:)

Nah BMJ .... you don't need to know.

I'm sure your daughter will give you a full update after she attends -- maybe. ;-)

lol. Nervous dads most definitely do NOT need to know. Relax, BJM, your D will be fine....probably. ;-)

As for orientation, I did a pre-o and felt plenty oriented, so I skipped basically all of orientation. We had already had time to explore the campus and the town, to make new friends, and to ask all the little questions that were niggling at us in pre-o, so I just kicked back for a few days and enjoyed my surroundings. The only thing I did go to was the Honor Code signing and the class picture.
