Orientation!

First of all, congrats to all who are accepted! I really can’t wait to go to Brown in August and meet new ppl I’ll be spending my 4 years with. :D:D
Btw, I’ve got some questions related to orientation…if anyone knows and can fill me in it’d really be appreciated.
How many of you ppl from “third world” countries are planning on attending the TWTP before the actual orientation? And if you and your parents are attending (parents only on 26th?), would your parents just stay somewhere outside of Brown until the moving in day? I mean…we’re coming from the other side of the earth, and i dont know if the TWTP will be that good to get my parents wait for a few more days :s

Thanks i await for anyone’s response. Have a wonderful day!! :)

Haha...Brown invited me to TWTP because I have a foreign passport (dual citizenship, Finland) and have gone to school in India for the last 2 years, although I'm American in every other way. I think it'd be cool to go to get to know the international students because I'm not sure how I'll deal with Americans again, but I think it would be invasive.
In response to your question, I'm sure that you could e-mail that International admissions woman (I forgot her name), but I can't imagine that they would make you stay outside of Brown.

Is the third world welcome the same as the international orientation?

no... third world is just Browns way of saying minority

So when is the international orientation thing? Cuz i heard the third world welcome wasnt for me, but wouldnt want to miss the international orientation if there is one..

international orientation starts aug 31.

As does regular orientation.

ah, that's good stuff. we'll be able to see everyone in the class of '09. how long does orientation last?

I won't be getting in until late Aug 31. Hopefully I won't be missing anything too good.

I would try and make it as soon as possible. They say that Brown has organized a fair amount of activities for us, which include a talent show, carnival and a midnight movie on the main green.

Can't be helped. My plane arrives in Boston at 5pm, if it's on time, and then it's at least an hour from Logan to Providence. Well, it's not that late. I just can't wait to go so it seems later.

I wish we got to do a kind of retreat. That would be really awesome.

i was told orientation fell on the 30th for us this year

whoops, my bad, i just double checked and it is the 31st

yay it's going to be so much fun :)!

Think international orientation is on the 30th...

http://www.brown.edu/students/IMP/schedule.htm

I think watercannon is correct based on the information given on the website, but that's weird cause the letter I got said august 31st. Besides, I'll be reaching Providence by the 29th.

According to the info I received... make sure you have a place to stay.

It seems they don't open the dorms until the 30th and don't guarantee anything other than a key until the 31st.

I already got bookings at the Brown Inn. Can't wait to arrive there.
