I’m hoping for the best because OSU is my number one choice… what do you guys think?

Hi foryoubloo. Congrats on selecting OSU as one of the schools you plan to apply to! :)

My S is a current freshman and absolutely loves it!! We are OOS and my S’s stats were somewhat similar, though higher UW GPA, in top 20% of class and a few more leadership positions. Admissions does really like to see students are involved in their high schools, OSU is an active and vibrant campus, so they do like seeing applicants who have demonstrated involvement and leadership experience. Keep in mind, people who provide you with feedback are giving you their best opinion, admissions change every year and OSU is getting increasingly more selective. Since this is the first year OSU will be using the Common App, this year could be very different than year’s past, simply hard to tell.

A few questions that may help readers give you more valid feedback: (1) are you in state or out of state? (2) what is your desired major (undecided is fine, but some areas are more competitive, hence my question), (3) do you have access to Naviance (or any like program) at your high school that would help you understand the average stats for OSU accepted students from your high school?

Suggestions from our experience, (1) APPLY EARLY, (2) visit campus if you can, show demonstrated interest by reaching out to the individual school you may wish to enter, audit a class, do a tour of that specific school, (3) keep the admissions department up to date on any changes to your activities, honors, or grades even after you apply (i.e. if you apply early, and grades for first semester are great, make sure you drop your admissions counselor at OSU a note, let them know your grades show a upward trend and have your HS counselor send the updated grades to the admissions counselor to add to your file), (4) write an essay that really highlights who YOU are, stay clear of cliche’ topics, they really DO read the essays!!

Hope this helps. This is such an exciting time. Enjoy the ride and best of luck for a great senior year!!! :)

Thanks for all of your tips!
More info:
I’m an in state student
Intended major is political science or english (still choosing) (I have the intention to go to law school after undergrad)
I don’t believe we have any programs like Naviance. I don’t know very much about that specific program so I’ll look into it further and get back to you.

Does being an in state student help your chances?
