Hey guys. I’m a senior. The high school I go to is ranked and has been named a blue ribbon school a few years in a row.

GPA: 3.88 uw
ACT: 29
Class rank: top 10%
Female, Asian (URM in my area)

I have taken college level classes in high school for 3 years. These are not college-prep classes. They are actual college courses one would take at a university, such as ENG110, BIO101, CL CHEM II, etc. This is the most unique thing about my residential high school. I like science and the humanities so I plan on majoring in Psychology and fulfilling the requirements for dental school.

I would like to know what my chances of admittance to OSU are and how the pre-dental classes are. How cutthroat and competitive are students? I know that you need the best grades possible for dental school. How are my chances for the National Buckeye Scholarship Award ($12,000/yr) or the Morrill Scholars Program (full tuition)? Their recipients have an ACT of 28 or higher, so am I OK in that regard? I am working on raising my score a point.

We must’ve used the same formula because I came up with the same number…

But in all honesty your resume is very good and you have a ton of EC’s that will set you apart from the rest. When you say college level classes do you mean AP Classes where you passed the exam or do you mean college level classes offered in your highschool from like a junior college or something? You should be a shoe in for the National Buckeye Scholarship Award as well as the Provost Scholarship ($3,000) as long as you are out of state. Dental school is very competitive so OSU might be a little more selective with this major. Right now I would give you about a 95% chance and if you can get your ACT to a 30 or more you will no doubt be accepted.

I’m not sure how dental classes are since I am in mechanical engineering but I can assure you students aren’t cutthroat and mean. Like Dental, Engineering is a very competitive major but the students at OSU are still very friendly and helpful. Almost everyone will take the time to help someone out and study groups are very common.

I don’t mean AP classes. The school I attend is a gifted math and science high school. Instead of honors classes, we have professors who teach us the university-level class. We use university level textbooks as well. It’s not through a junior college. Our high school is just one of many state-funded gifted high schools. It’s a hard concept to explain, but my counselor sends my transcript with a sheet explaining all this to the schools I apply to.
And yes, I am out of state! That’s good news. I’m really hoping to get the National Buckeye award or MSP.
I want to major in Psychology. You cannot major in pre-dental studies since the classes required for dental school are just the basic biology, chemistry, etc. which can be taken with any major.
Thank you, TexasBuckeye7!! I feel way more confident now.

I am currently enrolled in the honor’s program at OSU and I graduated from a public blue ribbon high school in Ohio (2012) with a 4.0 uw GPA and a 30 on the ACT. I would be shocked if you weren’t accepted. Good luck with your college decisions!
