OSU Chem

Hey! I was wondering whether I should take Chem 121 or Chem 201H. The first one is the easier, non honors class and the second one’s much harder but honors. I’m good at science but my major is not chemistry or biochem. I was just wondering which one I should take without having to pull my hair out each night while doing my homework. Thanks so much!

I’m doing 201H, but I’m also coming in with AP Credit for 121 and 122. My advisor told me that 201H is very difficult because it may cover some of the same stuff as AP Chem but goes wayyy more in depth with it. I wanted to take the honors series, though, for the smaller class size which I think will help. I don’t think learning chemistry in a class of 300, like it is for Chem 121, would be a whole lot easier. But I guess it all depends on you. I’m pre-med, so I might as well challenge myself with the hard science classes to make my later classes not seem as bad. If you’re just trying to get out of a GEC, I’d go with the easier class.

If you choose 201H, they told me to go ahead and buy the text book, Chemical Principles: The Quest for Insight. The ISBN# is 1429219556. They recommended buying it and reviewing the entire “Fundamentals” section before classes start because it apparently won’t be covered in class, but we’re expected to know it anyway. PM me and I can email you the actual syllabus from last fall that they emailed to me.

Hope I helped!

121 might involve less hair pulling and the class will seem smaller if you sit in the front, use office hours and get to know your TA. The recitations are smaller sections.
