Hello!
Has anyone taken Chem 1220? If so, can you please tell me the difficulty level of the class for an incoming freshman? I know it differs by the professor, but in general, would a freshman who is not a whiz at chem do well in the class?

I got credit for 1210 (the first chem class) from AP chem junior year, but im just a little nervous about jumping into 1220. I dont want to retake 1210 bc it would be a waste of money for me.

Please let me know, anyone! Thanks :-)

I took it in the fall last semester. The average is curved to about a C, so keep that in mind. The exams are very tough! The professor I had made the material seem very easy, which was good and bad in that you could understand it well, but then the exams would be a lot harder than you expect. I think timing for the exams is what gets most people.

You have to practice a lot. It’s not enough to just do the homework and some reading and think you’re set. I got an A-, but I went through all of the additional practice (do this if you use Mastering Chemistry), book problems, and exams from previous semesters (get these from people who already took the course).

Doing the labs could be frustrating at times, but as far as lab reports go, I think the grading is pretty easy, as long as you know and show that you know what’s going on. However, the lab has relatively little impact on your overall grade when compared to the midterms and final.

OrbInfinite, thanks so much for your detailed and helpful email.

If you can recall, which professor did you have?

Also, I do not know anyone from osu that have already taken that class to get previous exams…

Do you think you might be able to help me out?

Thanks and I understand if you cannot/dont want to. You already helped me out more than enough!

Let me know !
