Hi guys, I am an international student from China, and I am now choosing between UIUC and OSU. I applied for human resource management, and I heard that UIUC ranks a little bit higher but the location is not that satisfactory. So I hope to get advice from local Americans, which program do you vote for?
Thanks!
I assume you’re looking at masters programs? Both programs rank highly, but I’ve found that HR rankings vary widely by source. I personally like the curriculum at OSU better after a glance at the schools, but that’s just a personal preference. There might be more research out of UIUC, but for a masters, either program is strong. If you don’t want to work in Illinois but are considering working around Ohio, then consider recruitment and placement of recent grads.
I wanted to expand upon my response, since I was replying while on the mobile app earlier. While I still like the outline of OSU’s program, it appears that UIUC has a more flexible program style that I did not fully inspect earlier. The average starting salary is slightly higher for UIUC grads, but not so much that I’d make that the deciding factor. They report similar recruiting and placements, which is not a surprise. What did catch my eye is that OSU has a higher tuition per academic year. Did you receive any aid? After a more thorough comparison, my decision between these two programs would come down to cost. If the cost isn’t substantially different between them after considering all funding, then I would consider location and cultural fit, both within the school and surrounding area.
hi thanks for your comments. I have not received any financial aid from either university. And I will come back to China after graduation. So I guess the fame of UIUC is an advantage for me.
