My D is looking at The Ohio State University and University of Tennessee. Does anyone have experience in comparing these two universities?
@boseownr Both are pretty good schools. Are you referring to the flagship UTK or the other locations as well? In general, OSU is better known than UTK. OSU is a tad bit lower than the top publics (Michigan and Berkeley) imho. If you are oos for both, choose OSU.
OSU has 66,000 students whereas UTK has around half of that. In general, OSU gives pretty good merit to OOS applicants, I’m not sure for UTK. It’s known for it’s incredible music and science programs.
If you are IS for UTK, it’s a good deal. It has a strong engineering program comparable to Clemson or Alabama. I think OSU’s engineering is much better, and better funded as well. Also, some majors at UTK are pretty good, like nuclear engineering (which isn’t offered at OSU). I believe it’s business programs are pretty decent as well.
In general, if your D gets a full ride to UTK, I wouldn’t pay OSU oos tuition instead. If she received good merit from OSU then probably. Some schools similar to OSU are Dayton, Miami (OH), Rutgers, Penn State and Syracuse.
Thank you so much for your input, Burgmuller2!! Now I believe her top three (today…lol) are OSU, Uof Dayton and Univ of South Carolina. Glad to get it narrowed down to three…from 10!
She is in honors at both OSU and UD and in Capstone at USC. The cost is comparable…due to her merit scholarship from UD and in-state tuition form USC.
Now she just needs to decide if she wants to “move away” from Ohio (our state and very close to Dayton) or venture to the south and experience a new state and culture. Since she will be going to grad school for PA (at this point), I feel each university will provide a comparable undergrad education to prepare her for that!
Thank you again for your time and input!! Very much appreciated!!
I am interested in UD for next year. Do u mind sharing your daughters stats as a frame of reference? Congratulations on Honors!
