"Other" colleges?

As much as I don’t want to sound like a pessimest (I’m hopelessly in love with Brown!!!), what are some good colleges you guys see as a Plan B if Brown doesn’t work out? knock on wood

Wesleyan, Middlebury, Oberlin, Sarah Lawrence, Williams, Amherst,... varying selectivity, but perhaps similar in some ways.

There have been several other threads in the past discussing this question, you might want to do a search.

A lot of it depends on what aspect of Brown attracts you. If it's the open curriculum, then Wesleyan, Sarah Lawrence, Hampshire, Vassar are possibilities. If it's the size/city location, then look at Barnard (if you are a woman), Tufts, American, Northwestern. One of my daughter's safety schools was University of Wisconsin/Madison, for the general feel of the student body and vibe she got from the campus.

Yeah but the thing that made me find Brown as the sweet spot is not only the open curriculum, but the fact that it's right in the middle of the city, a really compact city at that. It's also really beautiful, and broken up amongst College Hill.

Most other LACs that are open curriculum I've found to just be a campus located in a suburban/rural town with hardly more than 14,000 people. I'd die!

Ugh, why should I lie? I'm hopelessly in love with Brown!

I'm trying so hard not to latch on to Brown, it's just so difficult!! oh Brown, how you torture me. (If i get in i'll forgive you)

I didn't realize it until I visited, but WashU in St. Louis actually has a lot of the things that I like about Brown. Of course I like Brown better, but if I don't get into Brown, hopefully I'll get into there. I'm not applying to the typical Brown "other" schools, b/c I'm also applying to some big states schools that I hopefully won't have to go to.

UChicago, NYU, Georgetown and Columbia are my others but you know, getting accepted to Brown would be nice XD

I'm applying to Penn, U of Chicago, Tufts and Boston U.. still looking though

I've been told that Providence College is somewhat similar to Brown. I don't exactly see how, especially considering that it's a Catholic college (and of course not nearly as selective). Anyone see any similarities?

I'm pretty sure this is just my dad's attempt to convince me to go to a cheaper school (that offers merit aid).

As for other schools I'm applying in addition to Brown: Tufts is probably my 2nd choice, and I'm also looking at Northeastern, BU, Amherst, UMass Amherst, Brandeis, BC (a BIG maybe), and Dartmouth (but I really don't wanna be in the middle of nowhere for four years). So I'm basically just like the rest of ya... I need Brown.

I hope those of you who listed schools are also applying to safeties. Blinkangel listed some safeties, but UPenn, Univ. of Chicago, Tufts, BU, Georgetown, NYU -- all are far from sure things.

I chose each college on my list for different reasons but Brown wins by far.

Brown, Dartmouth, Duke, Vanderbilt, USC, UC Berekely, UCLA, UCSB

I'm a CA resident.

Brown, Harvard, Yale, Columbia, NYU, Princeton, Rutgers

Wesleyan, Vassar, Amherst,

My safeties would be IU Bloomington or Earlham College.

T_T

Is it a bad thing to not want to apply to any in-state schools? I would honestly give up on life itself if I had to go that route.

Hahah CA has some good state schools though

Yeah, they are, but I just wouldn't like being in the public school system at all after high school.

I feel the same way - plus I want to experience life on the east coast.
It's all personal choice but I would suggest you apply to SOME as safeties. I'm applying to Berkeley, LA, and Santa Barbara but only SB is a safety.. :|

Yeah, I thought about it, but safeties should be alright to go to also. And I wouldn't be alright with that.

I know Carleton College, if I apply, is an automatic yes. I went to the Carleton Liberal Arts Experience, and they were practically begging me to apply there! I'll probably do that as a safety.

I am in the same boat as you mandolive/obstinate.

I am in California, but dont really want to go to college here. I am applying to a bunch of east coast schools hoping to get into one!

I am also applying to Berekely, LA, probably SD. I have also been guaranteed admission to Davis, Riverside, and Irvine (woot! hah) through the ELC program, but I am not sure what I would do if I had to go to one of those.
