The “board” part of “room and board” is food, meals. There is so much food, you will not starve, and could easily gain weight. Also, milk and cookies every academic night at 9PM in your dorm.

Cost of books depends upon what courses you take.

Do u have any idea how much the health insurance will cost for an intl’ student, and whether we need to pay for “accomodation during break” (ie spring breaks and some days off at the middle of each term?)

The health insurance is 860. But it was included in my grant. I think this applies to all int’l students. I don’t think but am not 100% sure that we need to pay for accommodation during break. But dining services will be closed so we’ll have to cater for ourselves.

Some students do live on campus during the summer in order to work full-time jobs, such as library help, admissions tour guides, etc. Last summer, it was $300/month for a double, and I think $400/month for a single.

Big caveat----the PVTA shuttles do not run during the summer, so you need a car (or a friend with a car) to get groceries, etc.

The only other cost is the cost of books which completely depends on your course load. I’ve spent $130 and spent $500. There are also people who don’t ever buy their books and simply get it from the library. Any other expenses are at your discretion (coffee, clothes, eating out, booze, etc). If you live far away, you’ll have to pay transportation costs to go home during breaks, during some breaks Mount Holyoke allows international students to stay, but most domestic students go home for breaks.
