Other Examples of Leadership?

I am continually running across leadership questions on college and scholarship applications, but are there other things you could list besides sports captains/club leadership/student government? I’m a member of my schools swim and soccer team, but neither have specific “captain” positions. For example, when the refs call for captains at our soccer matches our coach just sends two players who have been playing exceptionally well within the past week and it varies at every game. I’m not a member of our student government, but I am the president of my school’s environmental club but that doesn’t feel like enough to answer the question of, “How do you demonstrate leadership?”

Does anyone else know of some other way you can express your leadership? For example, tying it into your community service somehow?

You don’t need to have an official leadership position to be a leader. There are many who are quiet leaders who lead by example while never holding an elected or appointed position. For example, the person on a sports team who is not elected captain, but is the first one there for practice, cheers everyone on and is the one who helps the coach pack up the equipment at the end of the day. That is leadership. If you have the opportunity to address this is an essay, it works. It’s hard to address it in a list, though.
