My daughter is very interested in UR and we were crossing our fingers that she would be considered for the Richmond Scholar program since we are unlikely to receive FA. As they wind down the process of making offers, we are beginning to consider our other options. Does anyone know if UR offers merit outside of the Richmond Scholar program? Or is this sort of our only chance :)
Her stats are pretty strong (3.8, top 3-4% of class, 2300 SAT in one sitting, some state level awards and solid ECs). She has also tried to demonstrate her strong interest through the essays, a visit to Richmond, attendance at some local events...
I appreciate any info anyone might be able to share.

They still have approx 20 days left… :)

(Anxiously waiting too!)

Yes, they do have other scholarship, check their website

I think she would be a good candidate for Richmond Scholars. Even if she did not get the actual scholarship, I think all finalists get $15000 per year.

Wordy - my daughter is a Jr at UR. We were disappointed when she did not get Richmond or Bonner scholarships. Her first year she did receive grant money based on need. Her Sophomore and Junior years she has received substantial scholarship money based on recommendations from profs and department chairs. While I don’t know this for certain, it seems that freshman year there are not a lot of options but, in at least my daughter’s case, there is money available in subsequent years.

PAVenturer and burry-
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experience. Unfortunately my daughter is not a semi-finalist (all have been notified) and Richmond will be tough to swing without substantial merit. We will have to wait and see what the spring brings…

My son was also not a semi-finalist in the Richmond Scholars program. We will not qualify for financial aid. He was accepted ED. Any chance he will receive a Presidential scholarship?

My son has applied regular decision. He too did not get asked for the scholarship participation. However, we are crossing our fingers for acceptance and some type of scholarship and grant. Otherwise, we will have to seek other school options. I wish we knew more about how generous they may be with grants…etc…anyone know?

Madeline - UR does meet 100% of demonstrated need (COA-EFC). Our daughter received very good aid freshman year and better aid sophomore and junior years.
