People at my school are getting massacred by their early colleges. I'm hoping the pattern is not indicative of larger trend (i.e., including our beloved Princeton).

So far, only two kids have gotten into Brown, Dartmouth, Columbia, or Amherst who are not athletes or black. Of the special interest applicants, we've had 6 athletes and one minority get in.

Being a white non-athlete myself, I'm getting nervous. Just wondering if other people have experienced similarly disheartening results.

Here, people apply early to the big names or not at all (and it's only a handful at that); I don't think anyone applied to Dartmouth/Brown/Amherst early, and not Columbia either. I suppose I'll find out how we did on Thursday when the webbies get theirs... and hopefully I'll have mine soon too. fingers crossed

2 people got deferred from Dartmouth, 3 from Columbia, one of them have parents who graduated from the grad school of COlumbia (I found that out today), friend in CA applied and deferred from Columbia with double legacy, a friend at my school got into MIT, she's not she's going there yet, that's all I know for now, I'll go ask about brown tomorrow haha

as far as i know, there are two kids in my school who got into Columbia as white non-recruits, two in dartmouth, one of them is recruited for soccer, one in williams, one in amherst, both of them are soccer recruits, and one who already got a very likely letter from harvard for field hockey. well there are a couple who got in UVA and northwestern

3/5 in Columbia...seems good until you consider the fact that of those three, two were URM and the other one was #1 in the class.
Brown I don't know about, but 1 definitely in already

yeah we were:
2/4 in Columbia (early cum laude legacy and another decent kid deferred for a baseball player and a mysterious admit)
2/3 in Brown (two lax players in)
1/1 at Amherst (black guy)
1/1 at Dartmouth (rower)

i mean i feel REALLY bad for them, but I don't get why they are freaking out over something this meaningless...they keep alluding to Stanford MBA scandal...when no parallel exists between the two situations!

my advice...if you know you have been accepted...rejoice, order a sweatshirt so you can have it in time for the official decision...wear it to school when you tell other people of you admission. stop freaking out, you didn't do anything illegal...it was just an innocent MISTAKE...not a premediated hacking scheme like that of Stanford

Although my school doesn't even have anyone else applying to an Ivy League school let alone a top CC university, I have a friend whom I met this summer at Georgetown who attends Gunn High School in Palo Alto. Unfortunately he was rejected early at Brown; he also told me his friend who scored a 2340 was deferred at Brown, along with numerous other stories of top kids from Gunn who were deferred at Columbia, Brown and Dartmouth.... I believe only one of his friends was successful (getting in early at Dartmouth). Unless there's some enormous disparity in the quality of recs/essays/ECs between myself and some of the kids he spoke of, I'm screwed.
