other schools to consider along with Wake?

Wake is definitely my number one choice, however it is a reach. I know that I want to attend college in the south. What are some other schools that i can look into along with Wake? I would appreciate advice from students/parents who have gone through the process. Thanks!

Best advice is to identify 3 schools that offers what you are seeking and in range (act score in middle or high of the range). Everyone is looking for something different…so it is very personal. For example … S wanted a solid academic, Div 1 athletics, strong Greek, and a nice campus. He got into wake…so that worked out.

Definitely keep an open mind and visit campuses.

College ******* is a great resource.

I want those same things you have just mentioned- I love wake’s campus, size, and I want Greek life as well. Where else did your son consider?

Duke, UNC (OOS) and Vandy were his other interests ( reaches as well) in south. Suggestions will depend on what state you might be from … Clemson and UNC (possible for instate) standout. Other like schools were BC, UVA, and Miami University in Oxford Ohio.

He loved Miami Of Ohio … So much so its still considered depending on financial aid at Wake. Miami had a Breathtaking campus, #3 in undergrad teaching, and OOS scholarships based on test scores.
campus!!! with solid academics,

Schools that are much easier to get into than Wake include Highpoint, Coastal Carolina, East Carolina, UNC-Greensboro, UNC-Wilmington.

Schools that may be somewhat easier to get into than Wake but are in the South include Clemson, University of Miami, University of Florida, Elon, NC State, UGA, Virginia Tech, etc.

Schools that are on par or slightly/somewhat harder to get into, depending on program and where you live, include Duke, Washington & Lee, Davidson, Vanderbilt, UNC, UVA, Emory, etc.

If you are really and truly looking for a Wake-like school that is easier to get into, I highly recommend checking out Elon. But do not sell yourself short - best of luck with your Wake application.

Thank you both! That was extremely helpful, I really appreciate it.

U of Richmond seemed very Wake-like when we saw it.

You might like Furman as well. Not quite as much of a reach, but it has similar aspects: beautiful campus, small population, located in South Carolina but close to NC. It is regarded as a top liberal arts school.

ECU and Coastal and even Clemson are not much like Wake.

The schools that truly most resemble Wake would be mid-sized to small southern schools that aren’t urban with mostly d1 athletics, greek life, etc. These would include Wash and Lee, Furman, Richmond, Vandy, Davidson, Elon, High Point.

@Wneckid99 >ECU and Coastal and even Clemson are not much like Wake.

The requirements were that the school must be in the South, not that it needs to be like Wake.

@DougBetsy >U of Richmond seemed very Wake-like when we saw it.

Completely forgot about this. I feel like a ton of people applied to Richmond and Wake. If you are looking for a Wake-like school I would recommend checking this out.

Had two daughters who attended Wake and Elon. They are VERY different schools. Both are good for different types of students. Any questions and you can PM me.

Thanks for the clarification Greggles. I have 3 friends who go to Elon and their experiences and what they talked about made it seem like Wake and Elon were similar. I also got similar vibes when I visited both.

Clearly, I may be wrong
