Hi! My daughter is applying for Fall 2017, as anyone reading the previous few threads would notice. Anyone else out there who is applying for next year? It would be fun to see where students are from and what major they are considering, or undecided.
DD is from Kentucky, applying as a freshman for the ASL Interpreter program. So far, admissions documents have all been received except for 1 recommendation, it may not have been sent yet. The admissions office has been easy to work with and seems organized!
DD plans to apply, in some chem/bio/engineering program TBD. It’s one of many schools on her list at this point.
It’s a great school, and has done nothing but improve in the last 20+ years. The Div1 hockey vibe (both mens and womens) is great too. I had friends who went through interpreting as a major, and the mainstreaming of hearing-impaired students and hearing students in both classes and dorm life gives lots of opportunity for practical experience. My wife and I are both alums, and we live in greater Rochester (although I’m not from Rochester originally).
My son will be applying and will most likely attend if athletic recruiting works out. Talking to coach, pre-read completed and positive but no further communication. If anyone else in similar situation please comment. Interested in computer science or civil engineering.
Do you know when he will hear back from RIT, @skondragunta ? I was just curious. March seems like a long way off to hear back about admission, since my daughter has already applied Regular Decision… maybe athletes hear sooner? I guess fi she does get admitted, we will make another visit up there to help her figure out if that is really where she wants to go.
@stencils, you must know a lot about the school! I was impressed with it. I wish I had had time to see Rochester when we visited…but we had to hurry back…I am sure it is nice. RIT is probably the most selective school on daughter’s list, but she is very interested. Her app is complete with recommendations and all of that. Hope your DD gets lots of good options for schools!
I poke around here from time to time as my S16 is a first year at RIT. I can try and help answer any questions…
He’s an RIT BS student (MechE/Aerospace) supported by NTID, though he really isn’t using any of the services they offer. At least one of his friends is there as an ASL/Interpreting major and she seems to be very happy with the program.
Hi @dbjs70 I hope your so is happy there! thanks for the info about ASL?Interpreting, good to here. The program has a great reputation. Are the students pretty friendly and outgoing there?
@2kidsinky, he’s ridiculously happy, and is definitely at the right school for him.
Interestingly, he applied to RIT only after not having his early decision choice work out. The school was originally not on his list because they don’t have a marching band which was something that was originally non-negotiable. After he was accepted he didn’t even really want to go to the accepted candidate day, but that visit opened his eyes to the school.
From what we’ve seen its a very friendly place. S16 has developed a great friend group and seems to have the social side figured out.
Wow, just seeing all the typos from my previous message now, haha sorry! I think I was using the iPad. Anyway, that’s funny how it worked out to be a surprisingly great school for him once he visited! I hope my daughter gets admitted! But it is a long wait to find out!
@2kidsinky My son wrote to coach to ask if he should apply ED. Coach responded but did not specifically say he should. So we are at this point going to do a RD. RIT is my son’s first choice but he wants to be a student athlete. So he will go where he can play.
Hi @lamlNTP, I have read back over the old posts on this site from last year, and it seems like almost everyone heard after mid-February, through the end of March. That is for RD Regular Decision.
When my daughter met with an admissions counselor, he encouraged her to apply early. I believe they roll out their admissions decisions based on the order in which they were received, but they don’t start giving their decisions until February for regular decision.
Here is a clip from their recent Freshman Prospectus that is online:
Students applying for freshman admission in the fall (September) may apply through
the Early Decision or Regular Decision Plans.
The Early Decision Plan is designed for students who consider RIT their rst-choice college and wish to make an early commitment regarding admission. The application deadline for Early Decision is November 15. Early Decision applicants will receive their admission decision beginning in mid-December.
The application deadline for Regular Decision
is January 15. Regular Decision applicants will receive their admission decision beginning in mid-February.
Applications received after January 15 (November 1 for spring) will be reviewed on a space-available basis, with noti cation letters mailed four to six weeks after the application is received.
3 days left for ED deadline at both RIT and Stevens, and torn between the 2. RIT seems to have a great co-op for engineering, but Stevens isn’t too bad either. Stevens obviously with a better location, cannot run RIT NPC at the moment but surely Rochester will be cheaper. They also seem to give a lot of merit and needs based aid.
