Trying to decide the merits of each program, one of course is location with Chicago winning. D is accepted to one and on the wait list for the other.
Both excellent programs, though DePaul is entirely focused on acting whereas Otterbein offers both acting and MT. (which could make a difference if your daughter is interested in having some MT opportunities versus concerned about not getting as much attention as MTs).
I can only comment on Otterbein where son is a Junior Acting BFA. What would you like to know?
Do the acting students have private voice and dance lessons, and if it is not for all 4 years can they pay for lessons? How intensive is the classical acting training? Are all acting students included in the senior showcase, and can they showcase both acting and singing?
No extra charge for daily dance class, there is extra charge for private voice, but it is very reasonable and may be taken all 4 years. I hate to say I’m a bad theatre mom and I can’t expand on the classical training. Email Matt Wolfe, the program’s Administrative Asst. and he could tell you what you’d like to know. Son is an actor who sings and has been cast in 3 musicals thus far and will be in the Otterbein Summer Theatre production of My Fair Lady.
