i talked to my counselor today since i wanted to take 22 quarter units..(and this is a huge jump in her eyes cuz i only took 14 last quarter). but basically she was like "you do realize your asian..and that berkeley has a lot of asians" implying that it'd be impossible for me to get in.

dude if ure oos and ure asian its *ing next to impossible to get into berkley...its like 50% asian....its like affirmative action but *ed up

Whoa, easy bignerd43. If it's "like 50% asian," right there those numbers tell you it can't be next to impossible to get in. Bearclaw15, if race is ever considered, it's waaay down the line where it won't matter much if you have a strong record in other areas. I have no idea what that has to do with you taking 22 units, but if that's what prompted your counselor to say that, he/she is nuts and shouldn't be listened to.

Northeastern University? I find that hard to believe. Anyway, you are significantly disadvantaged if applying from out of state; they even say so.

So what if there are a lot of asians at Cal? If you're smart enough to get in being asian is irrelevant. If you're worried about it, don't state it on your application. Unless your last name is Wong or something.

"I tell them that's not a legitimate reason," says UC-Irvine ombudsman Ron Wilson, who deals with student complaints. He also fields calls from non-Asian parents who complain that their children's grades weren't fair because there were "too many Asians" in the class.
