oucch from a counselor to berk

i talked to my counselor today since i wanted to take 22 quarter units..(and this is a huge jump in her eyes cuz i only took 14 last quarter). but basically she was like "you do realize your asian..and that berkeley has a lot of asians" implying that it'd be impossible for me to get in.

*** is up with that?! is it true?

lol. I don't think it's true.

A counselor told that USC pharm schools mostly admittes asians girls from UCI. (I am white). But i found that funny.

dude if ure oos and ure asian its *ing next to impossible to get into berkley...its like 50% asian....its like affirmative action but *ed up

Whoa, easy bignerd43. If it's "like 50% asian," right there those numbers tell you it can't be next to impossible to get in. Bearclaw15, if race is ever considered, it's waaay down the line where it won't matter much if you have a strong record in other areas. I have no idea what that has to do with you taking 22 units, but if that's what prompted your counselor to say that, he/she is nuts and shouldn't be listened to.

Isn't race optional on apps? I never understood this. Why dont asians just leave the race blank.

its almost impossible to get in to berkeley if you are out of state, regardless of race.

wow thats really harsh...Is it mandatory to put in your race on UC apps?

I guess if your name is like Chan, Zhu, ect. its kind of hard to hide if your asian.

Jacknjill, it is optional.

Prove it. 6 of my friends from Northeast got into Cal.

im just going by what some of the UC people on here say. they dominate this board.

Northeastern University? I find that hard to believe. Anyway, you are significantly disadvantaged if applying from out of state; they even say so.

good thing im an in-state filipino :]

I wouldn't worry about it. You councelor is lame.

So what if there are a lot of asians at Cal? If you're smart enough to get in being asian is irrelevant. If you're worried about it, don't state it on your application. Unless your last name is Wong or something.

i am at a CCC (in-state resident) and i am chinese.
