DS’s college posted an increase several years ago when the economy was at its true abyss. “Only” 4% and with many apologies, but an increase, nonetheless. I am awaiting news about our rising freshman’s school as the 2011-12 numbers are not out yet. Kinda unfair that we make these decisions without knowing what the cost is going to be. Some of these increases can truly make a difference. And the fin aid awards go out without the increases in place? That can really quash some plans that are right on the financial wire.

We just got our annual love-letter from Blue Cross announcing our premium increase: only 14% this year! This is lower than average, and much lower than the 30% we had one year. And, as usual, the increase in premium comes with a cutback in coverage. So when it comes to tuition, I can live with a 3-5% bump. At least it doesn’t come with a reduction in education benefits.

^Oh my gosh!
